Photo meal estimates
Why a food photo still needs your review
A photo is quick and useful, but it is evidence—not a weighing scale. EatLose uses the image to prepare an editable draft.
What a photo can help identify
A clear image can suggest the visible foods, how many separate items are on the plate and a rough portion relationship. This makes photo logging a practical first step when typing every ingredient would take too long.
What the camera cannot know
Cooking oil may have soaked into the food. Sugar can dissolve into a drink. A sauce can contain more or less energy depending on its recipe. The depth of a bowl and the weight of a portion are also difficult to infer from a single angle. No responsible photo calorie estimator should present these unknowns as exact measurements.
Make an estimate more useful
- Photograph the whole plate in good light.
- Add a short note about oil, sauces, drinks and hidden ingredients.
- Check whether each item and its amount match the meal.
- Edit the draft before you confirm it.
If you know a packaged food’s label or serving weight, enter that information manually for a stronger starting point.
Your diary changes only after confirmation
EatLose keeps photo analysis separate from confirmed intake. You can correct or discard the draft, and optional AI analysis does not receive raw Apple Health records.
